Residence Permit Applications Online

Applicants who would like to apply for a Residence Permit to live, work and study in Norway can now register their applications on the Internet using the Application Portal. This will result in shorter processing times, no queues, as well as making it easier for applicants to reapply for subsequent permits. Applicants can also check the status of their applications online.

Application Procedure

Applicants who wish to apply for a resident permit at the Embassy in Bangkok are requested to fill in the application form online, pay the application fee and book an appointment on the secure Application Portal before submitting their supporting documents at the Norway Visa Application Centre or at the Embassy.

Booking an Appointment
All applicants who submit their applications for residence permits online can book an appointment on the Application Portal before showing up at the Norway Visa Application Centre to hand in their supporting documents.

An appointment can be changed or cancelled (by the applicant) from 'Previous individual application(s)' / 'Previous group application(s)' (on the Application Portal).

No Internet access?
If you have no Internet access, it is possible to register your application at the Norway Visa Application Centre at Alma Link Building where they have designated computers for registering applications online. It is also possible for the reference person/ sponsor in Norway to complete all or part of the online process for the applicant (e.g. log on and pay the application fee).

Reference persons/ sponsors who complete the entire process for the applicant (and the applicant is unable to log on to the Portal him / herself) must send a copy of the completed application form to the applicant, so that he / she is fully aware of the information being submitted.

The application form may be viewed and / or printed out from 'Previous individual applications' on the Portal.

Cover letter
The applicant must also sign the cover letter (which can be printed out after an appointment has been booked or anytime after that from 'Previous individual applications' on the Portal) and submit at the Norway Visa Application Centre along with his/her supporting documents.

Those who have registered their application online will automatically receive a cover letter as an attachment to an e-mail, at the e-mail address used when logging in to the Application Portal. It is very important that the applicant prints two copies of this cover letter, signs it, attaches a photo to it, and brings it with them to the Norway Visa Application Centre at the time of appointment. This cover letter replaces the old paper application form, so there is no need to fill out or print out any application in paper format.

The application form itself should not be submitted, as this is transferred electronically from the Application Portal to the Embassy.

How to apply – first-time users
The first time you use the Application Portal, you must register as a user with a username and a password.

Usernames and passwords should not contain any special characters such as @, %, &, etc. The password must contain at least 8 characters, at least one number and at least one CAPITAL letter (e.g. Bangkok123).

When you have registered yourself as a user on the Portal, you can fill in the application form (click on 'Apply for a visa'), pay the application fee (with a credit / debit card) and book an appointment at the NorwayVisa Application Centre.

Supporting documents
A number of documents are required in order to process an application for a residence permit. Please be informed that a joint electronic archive for the entire immigration administration will gradually replace the current paper archive. This means that all documents which are listed in the checklists will be electronically scanned at the Embassy from January 2011. It is therefore very important that all original documents must be submitted with a perfect copy in A4 format. Please do not staple any documents together as this will delay the scanning process.

Application fee
The application fee must be paid electronically (by credit / debit card) on the secure Application Portal after filling in the application form online. The application will not be sent to the Embassy before the payment has been successfully processed (usually within a few seconds).
