Norwegian Flood Technique in Thailand

Last updated: 02/12/2011 // Since 1999, the Norwegian company AquaFence has helped people and companies all over the world to combat the destructions and devastations that flooding entails. On 1 December 2011, AquaFence held its first public demonstration of its flood protective system in Thailand, in the presence of both the Norwegian Ambassador H.E. Katja Christina Nordgaard and Deputy Governor to Bangkok, Mr. Porntep Techapaibul.

The patent protective system is now in use in many countries around the world, including the USA, Australia, Germany and Sweden. At the end of October this year, several companies at industrial sites in Thailand contacted AquaFence in Norway to deliver flood protection systems for their factories. These are now installed at sites in Bang Poo, Nava Nakorn and Samut Sakhon. AquaFence is typically used by cities, communities and industries to protect their multi-billion investments which otherwise risks being inundated by water.

The technique of the system is as simple as it is clever. The foldable AquaFence elements are made from waterproof panels, aluminum, stainless steel, and canvas. The units use water as a stabilizer, so, as water rises against the wall, the system actually becomes stronger and more effective at preventing water from permeating it. The products are also highly competitive, both for repetitive use and for time saving. One example of this can be taken from Mount Vernon in Washington, USA, where the community had been using sandbags under previous floodings. It used to take around 2 000 people 12 hours to build a defense covering 500 meters. After the community invested in the Aqua Fence system, 25 people erected the same distance in a matter of 3 hours.
