Norway popular among students

Foreign students are streaming to Norway like never before.

The number of foreigners studying in Norway increased in the period from 2000 to 2004 from 6,000 to 10,000 students. One out of four foreign students in Norway studies in the fields of social science, law, economics and administration. Natural science is the second most popular field of study with nearly 20 per cent of the students. The last few years international eduaction has been more coordinated between the countries, and Norway has introduced the international degrees Bachelor and Master, which might partly explain the increase in students.

Recently a new website was launched, www.studyinnorway.no, by the Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Higher Education (SIU).  The new website is Norway’s primary service on the Internet for prospective students seeking general information about study opportunities at Norwegian institutions of higher education.

The website is part of a new national strategy to promote Norway abroad as an attractive study and research destination. SIU is responsible for developing and implementing the new strategy.
