Warning against individuals claiming to represent Norwegian authorities

The Embassy has received information about a Norwegian individual in Thailand who falsely claims to represent the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Office for Social Insurance Abroad ( NAV / FFU - Folketrygdkontoret for utenlandssaker).

The Embassy strongly warns Norwegian citizens, hospitals in Thailand and other parties against individuals who claim to be representatives of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs or NAV / FFU and who offer assistance in the communication with Norwegian authorities.  Going through a middle man who does not have complete information or a correct overview of Norwegian rules and regulations, and who obviously interprets the said rules and regulations in an incorrect manner, can easily be damaging to your own interests.  The Embassy is familiar with several cases where a middle man, under false pretenses, has misinterpreted rules and regulations, made communication more difficult and therefore damaged the case of the individuals that the middle man claimed to assist.

The Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and NAV / FFU are represented in Thailand by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok and the Honorary Royal Norwegian Consulate in Pattaya.  Apart from the staff in these offices, no individuals in Thailand represent the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and NAV / FFU.

The Embassy welcomes any information regarding individuals who falsely claim to represent the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs or NAV / FFU.  Criminal conduct may be pursued.
