A successful first year of the Mahidol scholarship program

Last updated: 25.11.2014 // A delegation from the Norwegian Embassy visited the Mahidol University and students from Myanmar who receives scholarship co-funded by the Norwegian government. The students, from different courses and ethnic backgrounds, expressed gratitude at the event held on November 20th.

The Norwegian government has since 2013 cooperated with Mahidol University on a capacity-building program co-funding scholarships for Master and Phd. students from Myanmar. The goal is to strengthen the capacity of the students before returning to Myanmar. The scholarship was intended to cover 30 master and 30 PhD students with an emphasis on subjects in human rights, gender equality, environment and health.

Vice-President of Mahidol University, Professor Surakit Nathisuwan, highlighted the successful management of the finances resulting in an additional five scholarships, leaving the total to 65 students. Currently, 55 students are enrolled and four students have already graduated. 

Ambassador H.E Kjetil Paulsen emphasized the good cooperation between Mahidol and the Norwegian Embassy, and the importance of education to build up human resources and strengthen institutional capabilities. He also highlighted the significance of students from different countries and ethnicities coming together to learn and develop network and tolerance from each other.
