During the last year and a half, Myanmar, under the leadership of President Thein Sein, has entered on a reform path that has opened the country to the outside world. Norway was quick to recognize the reforms and was the first Western country to remove sanctions against Myanmar. Both Norway and Denmark have now established a Diplomatic Mission in the country, in order to strengthen their diplomatic presence. The main task of the Norwegian Diplomatic Mission will be to follow up the various aspects of the increasing bilateral relationship, including Norwegian assistance projects. The Norwegian Ambassador to Myanmar will continue to reside in Bangkok.
